Scenic Transfer – Short Game Drive – Sunset Boat Safari
Morning: Your journey begins with a relaxed 9:30 AM pickup from Kigali, followed by a scenic countryside drive toward Akagera National Park. You will enjoy a delicious lunch at Bashana Restaurant in Kayonza before continuing to the park’s southern gate. Upon arrival, you complete registration and proceed to the luxurious Ruzizi Tented Lodge, beautiful accommodation along Lake Ihema for check-in.
Afternoon:Later in the afternoon, embark on a short game drive through the park’s southern woodlands, where antelopes, baboons, zebras, and various bird species offer a warm welcome to the wilderness.
At 4:00 PM, the highlight of the day unfolds with a serene sunset boat safari on Lake Ihema. Glide across calm waters as you observe crocodiles basking on the shores, hippos bobbing playfully, and a vibrant array of waterbirds. As the sun sinks over the lake, the sky turns gold, this is an unforgettable moment in the heart of nature.
Evening: Return to the lodge for a relaxing evening, dinner, and overnight stay under the soft sounds of the wild.
Full Game Drive – Return to Kigali
Early Morning: After breakfast, set out for a full game drive that explores Akagera from south to north. Journey through diverse landscapes lush lakeside vegetation, rolling hills, and expansive savannah plains, each offering unique wildlife encounters. Keep your camera ready as you search for the Big Five, along with giraffes, impalas, elephants, buffaloes, warthogs, zebras, and countless bird species. As you approach the northern plains, the scenery opens up to classic African savannah, giving you the best chance to spot predators like lions hunting. This immersive drive reveals the park’s incredible biodiversity and the raw beauty of East Africa’s wilderness.
Evening: After your safari experience, exit the park through the northern gate and enjoy a scenic drive back to Kigali, arriving with lasting memories of Rwanda’s stunning wildlife haven.

The park is named after the Akagera River that flows along its eastern boundary. It covers an area of over 1,120 square kilometers and is the only savannah park in Rwanda.
